Off this weekend, Mom & Sis are in Holland for two weeks so I guess I'm stuck playing in the "Repair Center" again.
The work on the bracing continues-
![[image]](http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ukhhwHzXVCY/SvX0QxVDsUI/AAAAAAAAQ-g/JUFITH684Ag/s640/11-7-09%20%203.jpg) I decided to deviate a little more from the blueprints by adding a full length brace under the dashboard which will tie the two uprights together better. Everything will be blended together later with bondo to form a nice curved bottom for the dash.

I made some good progress today.....
![[image]](http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ukhhwHzXVCY/SvdFVC2Y23I/AAAAAAAARBk/-psnoB2bqNk/s640/11-8-09%20%202.jpg)
The Driver's door surround is basically completed now. Another (deviation from the plans) upright was welded in at the tunnel and angled upward. I'm glad I did it because it made a big difference. I can actually use the door now without the nose dipping down.

Well, one interior corner now done...

...and it came out better than expected. I took the opportunity to cut out the rest of the rotted floorboards to make it easier to work in the cabin area. Since quite a few new braces have to be added here to support a new floor it would be easier if nothing is left over.

Next big project is to rebuild the Passenger side sill area...there is nothing left to work with, as you can see in the photo.

Wow. Some great progress on the convertible John.
Can't wait to see what you are going to do next. Just to give you an update- I still have not found a DAF yet but I'm still keeping my eyes open. If anyone hears of anything let me know.

I agree with daffodil. WOW! You've taken on a BIG project with this DAF rebuild. Any idea when you will be done and have it back on the road?

Thanks guys... It is a HUGE project that I have taken on and will take a long time to complete. The car sat idle for over 1 1/2 years before getting back to it because I could not decide what to do about the front suspension problem. This DAF will not be a "show" car but rather something I can drive around and have fun with...but it will still be done nicely!
Here is an update from last weekend-
After cutting out all the nasty floorboards I was able to re-construct and finish the Driver's side door sill and prep it for a new floor.
![[image]](http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ukhhwHzXVCY/SwHXJpX6maI/AAAAAAAARQk/nlCFI3HyrlU/s640/11-16-09%20%202.jpg) Another piece of angle iron welded on to support the floor...and the door even works.
With that completed I had some cosmetic work to do around the top edges of the engine compartment where the hood rests. There was a lot of heavy rust damage and some holes to repair.
![[image]](http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ukhhwHzXVCY/SwABn1aWItI/AAAAAAAARMU/mMyxaBUYX6Q/s640/11-15-09%20%202.jpg)
![[image]](http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ukhhwHzXVCY/SwHXJbFx4-I/AAAAAAAARQg/BPTzbD9929w/s640/11-16-09%20%201.jpg) I've fabricated 2 "wrap-around" strips (at the firewall & fender) to make the new edges and welded them in place. It looks as good as new again.

After turning the car around in the garage (so I can work on the passenger side) I took off the right side fender...I wish I hadn't done that.
![[image]](http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ukhhwHzXVCY/SwHX92drmRI/AAAAAAAARQ8/pATdW7KO4ro/s512/11-16-09%20%203.jpg) This looks like at least 3 days of work to me...what a mess! The entire front door support is gone & will need to be cut off.
![[image]](http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ukhhwHzXVCY/SwHXKdfiYdI/AAAAAAAARQw/Tm7qM4-piAA/s512/11-16-09%20%207.jpg) Luckily I found a failrly good and solid replacement in my pile of goodies (it pays not to throw away too much iron scraps). This support will be welded in place along with some re-enforcements.
More to Follow.....

That would scare the bejesus out of my John, there's no sill (erm, rocker?) panel to weld to there!
I must have missed that last time I saw that picture. I'm sure if anyone can do it you can.
Where do you start, when you need the sill for structural rigidity (and for being able to shut the door) but at the same time you'd have nothing sound to attach it to.
I'll look forward to the answer!
